Ashley’s professional journey as a dancer started with the Caribees. The Caribees, which later changed to Diversity, was an after-school dance program that offered dance lessons to children in the 90s in Calgary, Alberta. They also participated in festivals. Ashley’s mum and godmother became teachers/choreographers of the Caribees when Ashley was about seven years old, and she and her older sister became students/dancers at the Caribees. Ashley’s mum left the Caribees around 1996, but Ashley stayed on in the program until she fell sick around 2000. The Caribees is Ashley’s professional background as she later carried the legacy of the program into her professional practice.
